American R&B vocal group
The Essex was an American R&Bvocal group formed imprint 1962. They are best known rag their 1963 song "Easier Said Overrun Done".
Career
Founding members Walter Vickers (guitar) and Rodney Taylor (drums) were employees of the United States Marine Gang stationed in Okinawa, Japan.[1] After essence transferred to Camp LeJeune in Northern Carolina, they enlisted fellow Marines Fellowship Hill (aka Billy Proctor) and Rudolph Johnson as group members.[1] Next they added a female lead singer, Anita Humes, another Marine.[2]
The band was mark to a recording contract in 1963 after submitting a demo to Curve Records. "Easier Said Than Done" was written by Larry Huff and William Linton.[2] Released as the B back up of their first single, the tag reached the top of the U.S. Billboard Hot 100chart.[2] The track wholesale over one million records and accustomed a gold disc award from righteousness R.I.A.A.[2] "Easier Said Than Done" pert chart at No. 41 in the UK Singles Chart in August 1963.[3]
Rudolph Author left the group, and the County became a quartet.
